Overwhelming Support for Use of SANAKO Language Labs
Officials at the Brazilian Ministry of Education wanted to embark on a project that would modernize teaching at the federal universities. A special commission was established by the Ministry of Education to investigate and recommend possible avenues for achieving the modernization goal. As a result, 82 SANAKO language labs were installed in educational institutions in Brazil in 2005. In August 2008 SANAKO conducted a customer satisfaction survey among the teachers of these educational institutions. The survey was sent to 40 teachers, altogether responses from 17 educational institutions were collected from June – August 2008.
The survey shows that the level of satisfaction with SANAKO language laboratories is high in educational institutions in Brazil. Over 80% of respondents said that using the labs has helped them in their work. Just about 76% of respondents had recommended using labs to their colleagues.
Responses indicate that all activities of the lab are being used. The most used activities are listening comprehension and group and pair discussion.

According to the open answers provided by the respondents, high-quality training is mandatory for the effective use of the labs. High-quality technical support and services are also considered a priority, as well as more information on updates and current development of language laboratory solutions. Suggestions for developing technical features were also made.
Respondent comments included:
“We want the laboratory to be used by other teachers who currently don’t use it. Personally, I think the equipment is very useful for our work.”
“The training provided by a SANAKO representative has been and is currently very useful because it enables us to recycle and add new knowledge and, consequently, allows us to better use the laboratory.”
“Self-study modes, as learning must also take place outside scheduled places and times. Likewise, students must be provided with tools to solve their specific issues through a tailored set of exercises or simply to enable them to achieve progress on class-based subjects – but at their own pace.”
“I would like to see the current laboratory models that you are providing. If they meet our needs, we may then request that the lab we currently own be updated.”
