TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS FOR AUDIO PROBLEMS IN LOUNGE 100 AND FORUM 100
When users experience poor audio quality in Lounge 100 and Forum 100, the problems can often be attributed to network problems. However, in numerous instances, audio problems may also be due to certain settings that can affect audio quality. In the following, we have listed several settings to troubleshoot, when experiencing reduced audio quality in Lounge 100 and Forum 100.
- Mic Boost
MIC boost should not be used with Lounge 100 and Forum 100 as it reduces audio quality.
To check whether MIC boost is on or off, Follow the instructions below. - Double-click the Volume taskbar icon to open the Volume Control window.

- In the Volume Control window, go to the Options menu and select Advanced Controls.

- The Advanced button will appear under Microphone.

- Click on Advanced. This will open the Advanced Controls for Microphone window.

- Make sure that the MIC Boost option has NOT been checked.
ALTERNATIVELY
- In Windows, go to the Control Panel and select Sounds and Audio Devices.

- You can access the Volume / Recording Control window either through the Volume tab by selecting Advanced… or through the Audio tab by selecting Volume… in the Sound recording field.
- In the Volume / Recording Control window, go to the Options menu and select Advanced Controls.

- The Advanced button will appear under Microphone.

- Click on the Advanced button. This will open the Advanced Controls for Microphone window.

- Make sure that the MIC Boost option has NOT been checked.
- Microphone level
Poor audio quality may also be due to your microphone level being too high or too low. An easy way of getting all audio levels right is to use the Audio Tuning Wizard in Lounge 100 and Forum 100. To start the Audio Tuning Wizard - Go to the Options menu in Lounge 100 or Forum 100
- Select Audio Tuning Wizard.
Note that the Audio Tuning Wizard has to be run before a session. It can not be used during a session.
You can also quickly check your levels by going to the Options menu and selecting ”Select and adjust audio levels”. - Headset and echo
If Lounge 100 or Forum 100 is used without a headset or headphones, the sound will have some echo. It is important to use high quality headsets in Lounge 100 and Forum 100. If the Sanako PC headset is too heavy to carry, several manufacturers have lighter headsets that fit easily, for example, into a laptop case. - Echo caused by Mixer
If the Mixer option is on even in a single meeting or lesson participant’s computer, all participants will hear echo. Note that the name of the setting may vary depending on the sound card manufacturer and at least the names “Mixer” and “Wave Out Mix” are used by various sound cards.
To check whether Mixer is on or off: - Go to the Options menu in Lounge 100 or Forum 100 and select Select and adjust audio levels. This will open the following dialog.

- Make sure that the Mixer / Wave Out Mix option has NOT been checked.
- Reduced audio quality due to poor Internet connection
A possible solution for improving audio quality in challenging network conditions is to use UDP protocol for audio transmission. However, using UDP protocol requires users to edit firewall settings and to open a wider range of firewall ports.
For more information on using UDP protocol for audio transmission, see the bulletin “Lounge 100 and Forum 100 audio quality can be improved by using UDP protocol” (posted 18.9.2004).
