AT in Mozambique supports the business English studies of its staff
– Three campuses are equipped with Sanako’s language teaching software to become educational and training centres
The Revenue Authority of Mozambique, AT (Autoridade Tributaria de Mozambique), is the public bureau of the Customs Authority and the Tax Departments of the Ministry of Finance.
One of AT’s specific focus areas is to provide support to the Institute of Public Finance and Taxation Training, IFPFT (Instituto de Financas Publicas e Formacao Tributaria), at three campuses situated in Maputo (Matola), Beira and Nacala. These campuses are to become reference educational and training centres for AT, for the Ministry and for the local scientific community.
AT has acquired a Sanako Study 1200 language laboratory for each of these three locations to teach business English to the employees in the different institutions; they will receive training support from AT. Good English language abilities will help the employees when dealing with customs and other import and export issues.
Sanako Study 1200 software was selected because it offered the most comprehensive teaching platform for AT’s teaching purpose. The language labs were installed by Digital Voice Processing, Sanako’s partner in Africa with which Sanako has co-operated for four years in different African countries.
“Sanako Study 1200 is the perfect fit for AT’s needs. The software enables teachers to conduct versatile and effective lessons that combine speaking, listening and written text and, at the same time, engage students to actively participate in the lessons. Exercises can be tailor-made by using the specific vocabulary needed in customs and import and export tasks. Several methods of encouraging discussions in groups, pairs, teams or individually create possibilities for students to use the vocabulary in situations mirroring real life”, says Andrzej Styrcz, Partner Business Manager at Sanako.
The three language labs with a total of 36 student places were installed in January of this year, so the Study 1200 software has been in use for 5 months. “The challenge is to have a robust solution that offers a state-of-the-art platform for language learning but is also easy to use. With Study 1200 we have been able to combine these three elements. The teachers and students alike have been satisfied with the new way of teaching and learning languages”, explains David Tilling, Export Director at Digital Voice Processing.
“The Customs Service people have been so pleased with the new language labs that they are considering getting more, one of them a mobile unit that could go from Customs post to Customs post”, concludes Juha Merinen, Senior Vice President in Partner Business at Sanako.
